Statutory deadline
The return is filed and zakat is paid within 120 days of the end of the financial year. ZATCA publishes a calendar of deadlines, including 30 April 2026 for the financial year ending 31 December 2025.
How it relates to financial statements
The zakat base is calculated from items in the statement of financial position, so an accurate return starts with accurate financial statements. We recommend finishing the statements early, so there is enough time to review the return before the deadline.
What to prepare
- Financial statements for the year, or the records needed to prepare them
- Zakat returns for previous years
- Loan, investment and fixed asset contracts
- Any previous assessments or correspondence from ZATCA
After filing
ZATCA may issue an assessment that differs from your return. Read the notice carefully, keep your documents organised, and meet the objection deadline stated in the notice.
