Frequently asked questions

Is tax planning a form of tax evasion?

No. Tax planning means organising your business and transactions within the regulations and benefiting from what they allow, without any violation.

When is VAT registration required?

According to the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA), registration is mandatory if the value of annual taxable supplies exceeds 375,000 riyals, and voluntary if it exceeds 187,500 riyals but does not exceed 375,000 riyals. We review your situation to determine what applies to you.

What is the VAT rate?

The standard rate is 15% on supplies made since 1 July 2020. Some supplies are exempt or zero-rated.

When are VAT returns filed?

Returns are filed and the tax paid no later than the end of the month following the tax period. The period is monthly for businesses whose annual taxable supplies exceed 40 million riyals, and quarterly for others.
